No Homeless Youth Plan? You're Not Buttoned Up

Cincinnati is a get-it-done city.

$19 million complex for homeless adult youth. 36 apartments.

Rapid rehousing strategy that moves an estimated 300 young adults out of homelessness a year.

Into permanent supportive homes. And serves as a youth navigation center.

Committment. Passion. And a couple of get-it-done community members.

Nobody made excuses. Nobody blamed other people.

Nobody created a 15 year homeless youth plan. Kids don't have 15 years.

Millions are turning 25 years old this year. Ineligible for investment dollars.

Millions are turning 18 years old. And will leave foster care.

With no housing plan. No job plan. No educational plan. No income plan.

Cincinnati is no different from Orlando. No different from Leesburg. No different from Kissimmee. Or Sanford.

The responsibility is on you. Who you prioritize is your responsibility.

You want to continue prioritizing homeless veterans. Go right ahead.

You want to continue prioritizing transitional youth shelters. Go right ahead.

Cincinnati figured it out. Seattle figured it out. Minneapolis figured it out.

Philadelphia figured it out. Cleveland figured it out. Hartford figured it out.

Ending homelessness starts with ending youth homelessness.

You will never end homelessness if you have a continuous stream of homeless people.

You have a hole in your roof. And it's raining. Fix the hole in the roof first.

Then worry about the water in the basement. Priorities. You have your priorities screwed up.

Former foster care youth are filling up your homeless population. Kicked out LGBT youth are filling up your homeless population.

Disconnected high schoolers are filling up your homeless population.

But you're stuck in the basement. Fussing around with standing water. While there's a hole in your roof.

With homeless kids. Unacceptable.

Get it together. Get your priorities straight.

Your hair's a mess. You look dishoveled. You're all over the place.

You have no homeless youth plan. Your shirt's untucked. And you can't articulate a homeless youth solution.

Get buttoned up. Get it done.

Our young people are counting you. Don't make excuses. Don't blame other people.

Get buttoned up. Get it done.

Cincinnati is a get-it-done city.

So fantastic 😀
